May Favourites

For once I’m not writing this post thinking wow this month has gone fast or sad that it’s over. This month has been one of the worst I’ve had in a while so I’m actually glad it’s coming to an end. Anyway on to the favourites..I’ve decided that I’m not only going to do beauty favourites but other things that I’ve been loving in the month too which I hope you all like.

Beauty Favourites

Barry M Lip Crayon in Sirius
I’ve actually sadly lost this product but thought I’d still include it. The last time I seen it it was in my bag but now it’s nowhere to be found :(. I got this item in a giveaway and I loved it! it’s perfect for those of you who have dryer lips as it feels like a lip balm but still delivers great colour.

Mac Pro Longwear Foundation
I did a blog post on this foundation that you can read here so I won’t go into too much detail. I picked up this foundation thinking it would be good for evenings where I need a long wearing foundation which it works well for but I’ve been loving it so much that I’ve started wearing it every day! This foundation really does not budge and makes your face look flawless literally all day.

Elf Face Primer
I got this product last month not expecting too much from it, but I’ve used it nearly everyday since then and I can totally see a difference when I’m wearing it. It makes my foundation apply more smoothly and does advance the staying power of it. This combined with the Pro Longwear = 16 hours + of flawless make up!

Highlighter
I know this isn’t a product as such but just I’ve just fallen in love with face highlighters. I think they complete a make up look and make your face look so pretty when applied to the top of the cheekbone. My favourite at the minute is the one from the Sleek Contour Kit.

Non Beauty Favourites

FunForLouis
I watch a lot of YouTubers, mainly beauty ones but lately I’ve been loving vlog type videos. I’ve been subscribed to FunForLouis for over a year now but in the last month or so I’ve really enjoyed his videos, he’s not like other vloggers and you can see how much effort he puts into all his videos, he uploads every day without fail and makes me feel so lazy haha. But in all seriousness I don’t think I’ve ever watched one of his vlogs where he just stays in all day doing nothing, oh how I wish I was like that! Go subscribe to him over on http://m.youtube.com/user/FunForLouis.

Alien Perfume
I guess you could class this as a beauty favourite but I decided to put it in the non beauty category instead just for the hell of it. I’ve nearly finished my second bottle of this perfume and I just can’t get enough of it, I don’t feel complete unless I’m wearing it these days which is bad seeing as how expensive it is (oops). You’re probably all familiar with the scent so I won’t go into too much detail but it’s just the perfect perfume for my age, not too mature and not too young smelling.

High Waisted Jeans
Following my May wishlist post where I said I wanted to get a pair of high waisted jeans this month I actually did and I can’t stop wearing them! I got a black pair from shelikes and they’re perfect quality and so comfy. I’ve worn them with pretty much everything this month and continue to do so.

That’s it for this month guys, hope you didn’t mind the mix up of beauty favourites and non beauty favourites.

7 Deadly Sins Of Beauty Tag

I know I’m late on the bandwagon with this tag but whilst thinking of a post for today I stumbled upon this and I thought it sounded like a lot of fun!
This tag is all about the seven deadly sins but with a beauty twist. Feel free to do this tag and tag me in your post!

Greed: What is your most inexpensive and most expensive beauty item?
My most inexpensive beauty item that I have bought are my elf lipsticks, at £1.99 they are am absolute bargain and offer a wide range of colours and also last a good 4 hours on the lips. You can’t go wrong!
The most expensive item I have in my make up collection is probably my Naked palette for £38, I bought the first one myself and received the second one as a gift. Although it seems a lot of money, for 12 excellent quality eyeshadows it really is a good deal and I do reach for them on a daily basis.

Wrath: What beauty products do you have a love hate relationship with?
Definitely liquid eyeliner! I love the look of winged eyeliner and like to do it for special occasions but it just takes so much effort and I can sometimes spend around 20 minutes doing it and still not achieve equal wings. All these tutorials make it looks so easy!

Gluttony: What are your delicious beauty products?
I love the smell of Mac lipsticks and always have to stop myself from licking my lips when I’m wearing one! Am I the only one that feels like they’re walking into a sweet shop when they smell one?

Sloth: What beauty product do you neglect due to laziness?
Same as wrath, I’m going to have to go with eyeliner. I really don’t have the time to spend perfecting winged eyeliner in the morning so I tend to skip it, even though I love the way it looks! If I do have the time I will use it.

Pride: What beauty product gives you the most self confidence?
I’m going to say bronzer/contouring. Whenever I contour my face it makes me feel instantly better about my self and I feel as though it gives my face more definition and shape. My favourite product for doing this at the moment is the Sleek contour kit.

Lust: What attributes do you find most attractive in the opposite sex?
In terms of looks I love a tall man! Being 5ft 7 I can’t imagine ever going out with someone shorter than me, whenever I see someone that’s 6ft I can’t help but stare! Personality wise, I know this sounds weird but geekiness or intelligence. I’d pick someone who’d rather stay in and watch Harry Potter or Lord Of The Rings than going out all night any day. Oh an of course someone who can make me laugh is a must!

Envy: What items would you most like to receive as a gift?
At this moment in time either Nars Sheer Glow or the Naked 3 as I know I’ll probably never get around to buying them for myself. But seeing as a don’t have someone to buy me them (sob) I’ll just have to keep dreaming for now.

That’s it for this post guys, sorry for all the tag type posts lately I’ve just not had much time with the end of college and deadlines creeping up!
Don’t forget if you want to do this tag feel free and leave a comment down below with a link to your post

Make-Up Basics

20140523-075600 pm-71760199.jpg
Make up can be confusing if you’re a beginner, I mean there’s so many different things. Foundation, concealer, blush, highlighter, bronzer? What are they all for? Whether you’ve just started wearing make up or you just want to learn more, you’ve come to the right place.

Concealer
I think concealer is an essential in any make up kit. This stuff will be your lifesaver when it comes to covering up any blemishes, dark eye circles and even redness. There’s many different forms of concealer including liquid (my personal favourite), cream and powder. The best concealer I have ever used and is a great price is the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer m this stuff offers high coverage and works great under the eyes and for covering up spots.

Foundation
Foundation is completely optional and you may find that you don’t need it or want to wear it. If that’s the case you can just use concealer or a tinted moisturiser. If you do want to cover up some blemishes or even out your skin tone foundation will do that for you. If you’re looking for a light to medium coverage (covers up small blemishes but still shows your natural skin, great for summer and younger people) I’d recommend something like the Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation. If you have more to cover up or just prefer the look of a fuller coverage foundation I’d recommend Mac’s Pro Longwear Foundation or Revlon Colorstay as a cheaper alternative.

Powder
Now you may be thinking, do I really need powder? If you have oily skin the answer is YES! Do you ever get in after a long day and you’re make up has nearly disappeared and you’re left looking like a shiny mess? Powder will stop that and reduce any shine you may have. By taking a translucent powder likeRimmel Stay Matte and lightly dusting it through your t zone (forehead, nose and chine) it will set your make up in place and control shine.

Blush
Blush isn’t essential but it can bring back life to your face after foundation and make you like healthy. Add a warm toned blush like Sleeks Rose Gold to the apples of your cheeks and you’re good to go.

20140523-080723 pm-72443608.jpg

Bronzer
Although many people say bronzer isn’t an essiental in a starter kit I really disagree! Back in my early teens I used to think bronzer was this glittery orange thing that made girls like like orange disco balls but gosh I was wrong! There is actually a thing called matte bronzer which isn’t orange and can literally make your face look slimmer, yes you heard that right, slimmer! By placing a matte brown toned bronzer such as the powder in the Sleek Contour Kit in the hallow of your cheekbones (helps if you make a fish face) very lightly it can make your face look more defined and warm your completion up.

Mascara
I think mascara is the one thing that mostly everyone will wear in their lifetime, if you’re going to wear just one make up item it would have to be mascara. This stuff is made to define and enhance your eyes making them look larger, stick with a basic black and you can’t go wrong. A good starter mascara that lengthens your lashes without making them clumpy is Loreal Telescopic Mascara .

20140523-080515 pm-72315961.jpg

Eyeshadow
You may not want to use eyeshadow if you’re just starting out but if you do then a good basic, defining and easy look is to sweep a natural champagne shade all over your lid and then place a matte deep brown or grey shade in the crease of your eye (in between your eye and brow bone). The original Naked Palette has great shades for creating everyday looks. This will not only make your eyes look larger but also make them look more defined.

Highlighter
I’ve only recently started wearing highlighter myself but I wish I had sooner which is why I’ve decided to include it in this post. Highlighter is a shimmery powder or liquid that is placed on your cheekbone (just above the bronzer) to provide your face with a glow. The highlighter that I use and have had many compliments wearing is the one from the Sleek Contour Kit.

Lipstick
After all that make up you’re gonna want to add some colour to your face with a lipstick or gloss if you want a more subtle look. If you want to keep your look natural I’d recommend using a tinted lipbalm like Maybeline Baby Lips , or if you want to go all out and rock a bold lip then try a dark pink to start out.

20140523-080452 pm-72292631.jpg

Brushes
When you’re just starting out with make up you may feel as though tools and brushes are not needed but if you want a flawless base and seamless eyeshadow they really are! To start out I’d recommend a buffing brush for foundation, a powder brush that can also be used for blush and bronzer, a flat eyeshadow brush to apply colour to your lid and a crease brush to apply colour into the crease.

Beauty Survey

20140519-094951 pm-78591975.jpg
You may have noticed that I didn’t post on Monday and I feel incredibly bad about it. I was away in London all weekend and didn’t get a chance to write anything up before I went, I’m back now though with a few typical beauty related questions that I saw a few people doing last week.

How many times do you wash your face a day?
Once. I only wash my face at night either in the shower or with my Garnier cleanser. I don’t feel the need to wash it again in the morning and It tends to dry my skin out if I do.

What type of skin do you have?
Hmmm. This is a tough one, I’d say I have dry combination skin. I get really dry skin under my eyes and on my cheeks and a little bit of oil on my t-zone, I used to have really dry skin and I mean there was no oil to my skin whatsoever but with the right skincare routine I’ve managed to control it.

What is your current facial wash?
I’m extremely lazy when it comes to washing my face and hate the hassle of washing them off so I use the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water I feel as though this stuff gets all of the dirt out of my skin and is great for on the go.

Do you exfoliate?
Yes and I swear by it! As I said before I had really bad dry skin and since using a face Exfoliator around 6 months ago it’s cleared up a lot. I use the St Ives Face Exfoliator once a week and the Soap and Glory Scrub Your Nose in It twice a week whilst in the shower. This gets rid of any dry patches in your face but make sure you moisturise straight after using it.

What moisturiser do you use?
Clinique’s Moisture Surge is my favourite but it’s so expensive! A cheaper alternative that I also use is the Garnier Moisture Match for Dull Skin .

Do you have freckles?
Nope. I do have a few beauty spots on my face though.

Do you use eye cream?
No but I really need to as I get the most dryness around my eye area, I’m thinking of investing in a Body Shop one.

Do you or did you have acne prone skin?
No thank goodness! Fingers crossed I will never have to too.

What foundation do you use?
I’m currently using and loving Mac Pro Longwear Foundation which I did a review on here. I love how long this lasts on my skin and continues to look like it’s just been applied, it controls the oil in my t-zone and doesn’t stick to any dry patches.

How about concealer?
I use my holy grail Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer
I haven’t tried many concealers but I feel like this one does an amazing job at covering up pretty much anything! One thing I’m not too keen on though is that throughout the day it does tend to stick to the dry patches under my eyes but for £4 you honestly can’t complain.

Do you know your undertone colour?
Hmm I’m honestly not sure. According to Mac I’m cool and they always match me to nw15 but my body has a more yellow undertone to it where as my face is more on the pink side. I do like getting a slightly yellower foundation though just so that it matches the rest of my body and doesn’t accentuate the pinkness in my face.

What do you think of false eyelashes?
A pain! I’m getting better at applying them but I honestly don’t think the hassle is worth it. My eyes are on the smaller side and I think false eyelashes only make them look smaller, I have to be careful with what ones I wear. They do look great on some people though!

Did you know that you are supposed to change your mascara every 3 months?
Yes but that’s ridiculous! I’ve had some mascaras for nearly a year and they’re still useable, the only time I’d throw a mascara is when when it dries up. Plus with the price of my favourite mascara I wouldn’t afford to change it every 3 months.

What brand of mascara do you use?
My current favourite is the Chanel Le Volume De Chanel but I do like some ones and you can’t go wrong with Maybeline mascaras.

Sephora or Mac?
Seeing as we annoyingly don’t have a sephora in the Uk, it has to be Mac. I have a feeling if we did it would be sephora!

Do you have a Mac Pro Card?
I wish!

What make up tools do you use in make up application?
I love Real Technique brushes and they’re pretty much all I ever use these days. I love how affordable they are too.

Do you use primer for your eyes or face?
Yes both and I think it makes such a difference! I use the Avon eye primer on an everyday basis and then for special occasions I use the Urban Decay Primer Potion, both do a really good job. For my face I’ve recently been using the Elf Face Primer its silicone based and can feel greasy if you apply too much but it does make my make up last longer.

What is your favourite eyeshadow?
Hmm I’m a definite neutral gal when it comes to eyeshadow so I love anything from my naked palettes. If I had to pick a favourite though it’d be Buck from the Naked 1.

Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?
I can’t remember the last time I used pencil eyeliner, it just reminds me of the early 2000’s when everyone and their mother used to heavily line their waterline with black eyeliner and I hated that look! I don’t think it does anything for my small eyes either. I love the look of liquid eyeliner but I hate how long it takes to get the perfect flick, when it is done right though it looks amazing!

What is your favourite lipstick?
if we’re going with brand it’s definitely Mac, I know they’re on the more expensive side but they are so worth it! My favourite shade at the minute is creme cup and it looks so cute with pretty much anything and is also great for layering.

How about lipgloss?
I’m not the biggest lipgloss fan as I hate the feeling of sticky lips. I don’t know if this counts but I’m a big fan of the Rimmel Apocolips they’re a cross between a lipgloss and lipstick and are not sticky at all. I think my favourite is Luna.

What is your favourite blush to use?
Sleek Rose Gold is my holy grail blush! It’s the most perfect pink shade with specs of gold in it and it honestly gives the most beautiful glow to the cheeks. It’s one of the only blushes I can use without making me look like a clown.

Do you buy make up on EBay?
I’ve bought some unused branded make up on eBay but you have to be so careful because there are a lot of fakes out there, if you’re going to make sure you do proper research or know that it’s a fake before you buy.

Do you like drugstore make up?
Yes! For things like blushes, bronzers and powders the drugstore is all I use. I feel like you can get the same or better quality from a drugstore product than you can a high end one these days.

Do you ever consider taking make up classes?
Yes and I’m considering taking one in September not that I want to go into cosmetics full time but just so that I have it as a back up or to do it on the side for a bit of fun or extra cash. I think it would be great to learn a few extra tips for myself to use too.

Are you clumsy when it comes to putting make up on?
With things like winged eyeliner and a dark lipstick yes! Most of the time I’m quite good though and I like to take my time with my make up as I enjoy doing it.

Name a make up crime that you hate?
Wow I could go on forever. 1. People who wear a full face of make up and don’t fill in their eyebrows (especially when people have really light ones) I’m a firm believer in eyebrows making your face and they can honestly make you look so much better. I don’t understand how people can apply make up and not fill in their brows.
2. People who wear foundation and no bronzer/blush, I occasionally just wear bronzer or blush on their own with foundation but when people wear foundation on its own it looks so strange and totally washes your face out. You really need to add some colour back into your face after applying foundation.

Do you like colourful shades of make up (lipstick/eyeshadow) or do you stick to neutrals?
When it comes to my eyes I’m definitely a neutral girl and only ever wear browns and greys. Lipstick however is a different story and I love a bold lip! I love deep purples to pale links and everything In between.

Which celebrity always has great make up?
The Kardashians! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a picture of one of the girls and not liked their make up. I love Kim’s famous under eye highlight and strong contour and love Kylies winged eyeliner and big lips!

If you had to leave the house wearing just one make up item what would it be?
10000% mascara! I think mascara makes you look so much more awake and I have the shortest eyelashes so the thought of going out without wearing any scares me to death.

Could you ever leave the house without any make up on?
If I really had to yes. I’d like to at least have some mascara on though. If we’re talking about going out for a while to college or something I’d really struggle with not wearing any make up and I’d feel really self concious.

Do you think you look good without make up on?
Not the best no. I look so much better with make up on and look really different without it, I guess I’ve just gotten used to wearing it all the time and I now feel weird when I’m not.

What do you think of make up?
Obviously I love it! I believe that it can change a person from being really self confident to the most confident person in the world and I think as long as they are happy with the way they look who cares? I know for one if there was no such thing as make up I would be living a much more miserable life and would not be as comfortable as I am now.

Face Of The Day: Subtle Smokey Eye & Bright Lip

20140506-070053 pm.jpg

Today’s look includes a subtle smokey eye, bright lips and glowy skin. I used my new Barry M lip crayon in Sirius on my lips and I love the result, it’s brightened up my whole complexion and goes hand in hand with the smokey eye.

Face
Foundation: I used my Mac Pro Longwear Foundation in Nw15 which I’ve only recently bought and I love it!
Concealer: I applied the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer on my blemishes and under my eyes in a triangular shape to highlight.
Bronzer and Blush: For bronzer I used my all time favourite NYC bronzer in sunny, and for blush I went with Sleeks Blush in Rose Gold.
As Prolongwear is quite a matte foundation I don’t feel the need to powder my face on a normal day unless I know I’m going to be out all day.
20140506-070059 pm.jpg
Eyes
To start I primed my eyes using Avon’s eye primer in light beige to create a smooth base for the eyeshadows.
Eyeshadow:I used YDK from the Naked 2 palette all along my lid, followed by Tease in the crease. To deepen the look I then applied Snakebite into the outer v and then blended it together with the lightest brown colour from my Benefit Brow Kit which I also used to fill in my eyebrows. To bring the look together I applied a blend of YDK and Tease underneath my eyes.
Eyeliner: I was also brave and done a small wing with the cheap and cheerful Asda Liquid Eyeliner, this stuff is great for 1.99!
Mascara: To finish off I used my favourite mascara at the minute which is the Chanel Volume Le Chanel.
20140506-070104 pm.jpg
Lips
I used my new Barry M Hi Shine Lip Crayon in Sirius on my lips and I think that the colour really brought the look together. I love the high shine result that it gave my lips, I’m just loving this product!

My Top 3 Mascaras

20140422-072036 pm.jpg

In my eyes, mascara is an essential to any make up collection, you can have a full face of make up on but if you leave mascara out your face just doesn’t look complete.
In the 5 years I’ve been wearing make up I’ve used a lot of different mascaras and now feel as though I’ve found the best 3 on the market that work the best for me.

20140422-072040 pm.jpg

L’Oreal False Lash Telescopic Mascara – £10.99 Boots
This is one of the earliest mascaras I used and I’m still using it to this day so I must like it! You may not like this product if you’re not a fan of the long spider affect lashes though, as with a few coats that’s what this mascara achieves. Out of all three mascaras, this one gives you the longest lashes.

20140422-072050 pm.jpg

L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes Excess – £10.99 boots
This mascara really thickens up your lashes and lasts all day without smudging. One of my favourite things about this mascara is the brush, the bristles comb through your lashes making sure that there’s no clumps.

20140422-072045 pm.jpg
Chanel Volume Le Chanel – £25 Debenhams
This is by far my absolute favourite mascara! I know at £25 it’s quite pricey, but for the result it gives it’s so worth it. After having individual lash extensions last year, a lot of my own lashes fell out and as a result I now have quite short stumpy lashes, this mascara makes them bold, thick and long without being in your face.

What’s your favourite mascara?

My Top 3 Lip Balms

20140422-035516 pm.jpg

Today and Saturday I’m going to do two top 3 posts, I decided to start with my top 3 lip balms as I feel like they go a little unnoticed compared to its cousins the lipstick/ glosses etc. However, I bet that every single person reading this has a small collection of lip balms at the bottom of their bag. A lip balm can be the difference between a lipstick looking awful and patchy or amazing, I make sure that I prep my lips with a balm before I put any other lip product on my lips and I believe it makes a huge difference. These are my top three lip balms that I think work the best.

20140422-035530 pm.jpg
Carmex – £2.69 Boots
As it says on the tin, Carmex is a classic and even though it’s least moisturising out of the three, it does protect your lips the most. It acts like a balm against the cold, preventing your lips from getting dry so unlike the others it’s a long term solution to dry lips and for £2.69 you can’t go wrong!

20140422-035541 pm.jpg
Eos Lipbalm in Sweet Mint – £5.29 for two on Amazon
The eos lip balms are hugely popular in the blogging world and this combined with the futuristic packaging I needed to try it so i recently picked one up and it’s slowly becoming my favourite lip balm. Not only do these smell and taste AMAZING, they also provide your lips with moisture and unlike many other lip balms don’t need to be re applied every ten minutes (although it’s tempting as they taste so good). The packaging of these lip balms means that your fingers never have to touch the product, which can be really unhygienic making these very good for travelling and children.

20140422-035535 pm.jpg
Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Lip Protectant – £20 Boots
I’d never usually spend £20 on a lip balm but after getting this as a part of a eight hour trio on the plane last December I may have to when it runs out.
Unlike any of the other products this balm has SPF 15 in it which means it protects your lips from the sun, not only do I rely on this in the sun, I also religiously apply it every morning before I put anything on my lips. It applies like a dream and provides all day protection.

Competition Goodies: BarryM Summer Love Palette & Gelly Hi Shine Lips

20140503-022239 pm.jpg

A few weeks ago I entered LazyDaysBeauty 100 follower giveaway to win this gorgeous BarryM Summer Love Shadow & Glow Palette and one of the new Gelly Hi Shine Lips.
I woke up Thursday morning completely shocked to find out that I had won & the package arrived on Saturday!

Up until now I’ve never tried anything from the BarryM make up line, but I have definitely been missing out. Every colour in the eyeshadow palette is so smooth and pigmented and creates the perfect summer eye look. The highlighter is a beautiful peachy gold shade which I adore and is going to look amazing on the cheekbones and inner corners of the eyes for the upcoming summer months. The packaging of the product is really good for the price and includes a large mirror which is great for travelling and on the go, it also comes with 2 double ended applications which also come in handy for emergencies.

Now onto the lip product, I wasn’t expecting much from the Gelly Hi Shines and mainly entered the competition just because of the palette, but I have to stay I’m amazed by how much I love this thing!I got the shade Sirius which is the perfect deep pink which I personally think would suit everyone! They apply so smoothly and feel more like a lip balm than a lipstick. As it says in the name they are really high shine and last a good 3/4 hours before needing to be reapplied.
