Revlon Colorstay Normal/Dry Skin Foundation

DSCF0336 DSCF0337So here I am, continuing on in the quest to find the perfect foundation, yes I may have a few ones that I really like and work well, but I still want that all time favourite foundation that I just can not go without and I am yet to find it. On my quest to find the holy grail I picked up Revlon Colourstay, although this isn’t the one it is another of those ones that I really like. I got the one for dry to normal skin as I don’t like my skin to be completely matte.
The foundation claims to have ‘Long-wearing coverage with a lightweight formula that won’t cake, fade, or rub off. With Time Release Technology, the oil-free, moisture-balance formula is especially formulated for normal or dry skin to continuously provide hydration.’ Now there’s some of that I do agree with, I don’t find it cakey but it does tend to rub off rather easily which is a pain in the ass. For example say if i rest my hand on my face, when I then remove it I will 3 out of 5 times have taken half of my foundation off with it. I do agree with the foundation providing hydration as my skin never looks dry or dull when wearing it, I would recommend powdering over it though as it can sometimes make you appear shiny. This foundation comes without a pump which can be a real annoyance and you do tend to waste a lot of product.
I got the shade 180 Sand Beige which is more pink toned than I wanted but I did find that mostly all of the shades stocked in my local boots were leaning towards the pink tone.
Coverage
I would say the coverage of this foundation is medium with two layers, it does cover some imperfections but not all so this isn’t for you if you have bad acne scars etc. The foundation doesn’t cake at all when adding more layers which is good if you are wanting a little more coverage.
Longevity
This foundation claims to last 24hrs which I think is a bit extreme, it in no way lasts that long but it does have good staying power, think Mac Pro Longwear but a little less coverage. I’d say it could easily get you through an 8 hour day with no touch ups needed but after that you may see some minimal fading.
Have you tried this foundation, what do you think?

My Holy Grail Foundation | Rimmel Match Perfection Review

IMG_6387.JPGI’m going to start by saying this foundation is so underrated it’s unbelievable! Many other Rimmel foundations such as the Wake Me Up and hyped up a lot in the blogging world but I see very little talk of the Match Perfection. I have tried both and I personally prefer match perfection and it’s cheaper!
I first used this foundation around 2 years ago when I was looking for a purse friendly, everyday foundation At the time I was using studio fix fluid by mac on a daily basis and loved full coverage, matte foundations, so although I liked Match Perfection it wasn’t a huge stand out product to me, it just did the job. After I got through my first bottle I didn’t bother re purchasing it as I missed wearing my full coverage matte foundation everyday and went back to that for about a year. Then around a year ago whilst at my local boots I seen that they were selling Match Perfection for £6.99 so I had to pick it up, I applied it the next day and I fell in love with it this time around. It totally converted me to more natural looking foundation and I now love the look of glowy skin. Whilst wearing this foundation, so many people commented on how lovely my skin looked and asked what foundation I was wearing, I’ve never had this wearing any other foundation before including mac!
The Review
Match perfection is said to be designed to adapt to your skin tone, so that you get a great colour match making it look very natural, like your skin but better. It applies like an absolute dream, goes on without and patches, giving a medium coverage (when built up), natural glowy finish. I wouldn’t say it’s matte but I wouldn’t say it’s extremely dewy either. It’s the perfect middle ground, and makes your skin look so healthy, which is one of the reasons why I love it so much.

I get the shade 103 True Ivory which is the perfect match for my skin tone, it’s also one of the only drugstore foundations that isn’t too pink. It has the perfect mix of pink and yellow within it. My skin is dry combination meaning my cheeks get dry but my t zone gets a little oily after around 4/5 hours wear, compared to a lot of cheaper foundations Match perfection lasted around 9/10 hours on me without needing any touch ups!

after 8 hours wear with no touch ups.
This is the cheapest Rimmel foundations available and I think the most overlooked, if you are looking for a cheap, medium coverage, natural looking foundation I would so recommend you go out and buy this. You can also see this foundation used in my natural college tutorial here

Dewy Sunkissed Base

20140711-090648 pm-76008200.jpg
I’ve been absolutely loving mixing foundations lately, especially when I have tan on and need to darken my regular foundation. Whilst testing out the perfect shade with different foundations I stumbled upon a miracle! I’ve had a bottle of the Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish mousse foundation laying around in my make up collection for a while and I’ve never seen a purpose for it up until now as 1) it’s way too dark for my skin, 2) it provides next to no coverage and 3) it has a lot of shimmer in. Whilst experimenting with different foundations I decided to use a couple of pumps of this with my Mac Pro Longwear foundation, the result was the most amazing sunkissed and dewy looking foundation I’ve ever used. The shimmer isn’t noticeable and it just creates a natural holiday looking glow to your face. I apply it to my face with a Mac 217 brush if I want a lighter coverage or with a Real Techniques Buffing Brush for a fuller coverage. This is now my go to foundation mix and I can’t get over how amazing it makes my skin look!

How To: Get Flawless Long Lasting Foundation

20140608-090104 pm-75664957.jpg
For years I’ve been searching for the perfect foundation that will give me a flawless base and last all day and I finally think I’ve found that. I now believe that it’s not all down to the foundation and that preparation and a good primer plays a big part in getting your base to look flawless and last all day.

Step 1- Cleanse and moisturise face
A key to getting your foundation to apply smoothly and evenly is to make sure you apply a good hydrating moisturiser to a clean face before hand. My favourite moisturiser that I like to apply before I put on any make up is the Garnier Moisture Math moisturiser for dull skin.

Step 2 – Apply a primer
Before I had used a primer I was skeptical about them and thought there was no way they could ever make your foundation last any longer. But gosh how wrong I was! Applying a primer before your foundation not only makes it last a lot longer but also makes your pores appear smaller which leaves your skin looking flawless. The primer I use which gives me at least an extra three hours wear is the Elf Face Primer.

Step 3 – Apply a long lasting foundation
My absolute favourite foundation which delivers outstanding, long lasting results is Mac’s Pro Longwear foundation. As the name suggests this stuff does not budge all day and along with the two other steps can leave your skin looking flawless for up to 16 hours! My tip to achieve a flawless coverage is to apply the foundation directly to your face and then buff it in in downward motions.

Step 4 – Set everything
You may think you don’t need to powder your face if you don’t suffer with oily skim but powder doesn’t just control oil it also sets everything on your face making it last a lot longer. If you do suffer with dryer skin just powder through your t zone and where you’ve put concealer. If you’re on the oiler side lightly powder your whole face.

There we have it, this is the final look using 4 steps to achieve long lasting flawless looking foundation.

Do you have any tips to make your foundation last longer?

Mac Pro Longwear Foundation

unblended
Last weekend I popped into my nearest Mac store (after just discovering they had one, I was extremely happy) and I really wanted to try out a new foundation after trying out the Mineralize Moisture and not liking it. After I has explained to the wonderful Mac assistant she said that I would be more suited to Pro Longwear as I have combination skim which tends to make my foundation not last as long. She also said that the NC range (which I had been using before) is too yellow for my skin tone and tried a NW15 on me instead, It seemed to match my skin tone perfectly and after she had talked my through the Pro Longwear and explained about how it lasted up to 15 hours I decided to try it out.

Now the Mac website says the foundation provides sheer to medium coverage but I’d say it’s more medium to full if it’s built up, I personally really like this as I’m not a fan of thin watery foundations as to me if you’re going to spend all that money on a foundation you’re going to want it to cover up your imperfections right?
One problem you may find is that when you apply it to your face it sets rather quickly due to the long wearing of it, I’d suggest that you apply the product directly to your brush then work into your face so that you’re not letting it sit on your face first and then buffing it in. The key to this foundation is to really work fast with it! Don’t let that put you off though as once it’s applied it dries to a semi – matte finish which I absolutey LOVE! I’ve been stuck looking for the perfect in between of sheer and matte and I think I’ve found it with Pro Longwear.

Onto the staying powder of this foundation. The Mac website suggests that this product lasts for 15 hours! and I can by some sense see where they’re coming from, after a long 10 hour day I came home and checked my face in the mirror to see that the foundation had barely budged, I took a tissue and blotted my face and hardly anything came off..Seriously impressed!

If you’re looking for a long wearing, nearly matte foundation that will keep your face looking flawless all day then Pro Longwear is for you, if you remember to work fast with the product then this will easily become a favourite for many skin types!

Overall rating: 9/10

L’Oreal Paris True Match Foundation

I bought this item from Bootslast week on a 3 for 2 offer at £9.99, and couldn’t wait to get home and try it! It’s safe to say though that I was highly disappointed!

The bottle:

Swatch:

Verdict:
Firstly the colour I picked up (w4)was horrendous, I usually get a yellow toned foundation to counteract the redness in my skin which usually works wonderfully! This one however was the strongest yellow in a foundation I have ever seen, it made me look like I was suffering with kidney problems!

The product itself is a very fine, watery consistency which I’m not too keen on, when applying to my face with a real techniques buffing brush I found it was easy to blend, but made my face not only extrmeley patchy but it also stuck to the dry patches under my eyes and around my nose area. As well as this it made my small pores appear much larger than they are, which I never usually have a problem with! I honestly wanted to remove the whole entire product from my face and start again with my trusty Match Perfection foundation, but seeing as I had college in less than 20 minutes I didn’t have time. After powdering my face I moved onto my contour and blush, these products usually glide onto my face no problem, but with this foundation I felt as though they weren’t sitting right and again made my pores look even larger again!

After returning from college 6 hours later I checked my face in my mirror to not only realise that it had oxidised throughout the day and made my face appear rather orange, but also to find a patchy, oily mess! My t zone was extremely oily and most of the product had disappeared and the rest of my face was dry and scaly!

The one good point I do have about this foundation is that I loved the glow it gave my skin when I first applied it and maybe if unlike me you have a normal skin type then it may work well for you.
